But as any Beck fan will tell you, there is one pursuit that the Alternative icon has not followed through with; namely, a new album of original music. With its country style guitar and cynical, but realistic message. I imagine beck as some cool kid making sick dance beats, or songs I can completely use my imagination on. These are good things, but this new song was also good, in a different way. I love blues. I could completely relate to the lyrics. And it was crisp sounding and very straightforward.

It seems that since the official demise of The White Stripes, Mr. White has taken the DIY ethos to extreme levels all while retaining that vintage feel.

Would it be more of the more serious-minded Beck — lamenting lost love and the passage of time? Or would it be early Beck, pissed off about a taco that was given to him by none other than Satan himself? The answer is…somewhere in between. This is a masterful single that incorporates the lo-fi feeling of the early Beck albums while retaining the pathos and dread of his most recent work.

I Just Started Hating Some People Today has a country-ish vibe to start the single — initially sounds like funny lyrics obscuring the fact that it comes from a place of betrayal and hurt. Full band kicks in and it sounds like we are enjoying a Nashville country romp oh wait, I guess we are. It is a stunning cut and hopefully a sign of what is to come from Mr.

Beck and Jack White apparently have “almost an album’s worth” of music they’ve made together. The “Loser” singer revealed the news in an interview with Zane.

T-3 days until Beck hits New York City! In honor of those two shows, my Shriek of the Week is a stand-alone single that Beck released before his According to Third Man, the two songs were recorded in while Beck was.

He’s not going to make another record like the giddy young hipster he once was.

But surely he can make a record that doesn’t sound like a pale imitation of himself: every song here is a somewhat funky groove with an overproduced rock song on top of it. It sounds like. Is the zeitgeist so bad that we have to be nostalgic for that band now? It’s telling that the best song here is when the old man tries on a trap beat for “Wow. It’s like, right now. Annie Clark, a. Vincent, is far more interesting: she’s a fascinating thinker, an interesting lyricist and a forward-thinking musician who, among other things, is out to redefine the guitar in pop music in ways not heard since Adrian Belew.

All that said, “Masseduction” is far more interesting to read about than to listen to.

By the time that Beck Hansen finished his lush, melancholy new record, “Morning Phase,” he had become so consumed by the process that he says he’d caused brain damage. Recorded in Nashville, Paris, London and Los Angeles over seven intense months, “Morning Phase” is the artist’s 12th album and first studio album since he hit 40, and it sounds it.

Pensive, smooth, filled with rich Southern California harmonies by way of the Beach Boys, Tim Buckley and various ladies and men of the canyon and nary an abrasive note, it’s a record that a successful adult man with a wife and two kids, like Beck, would make. He suggested dinner at the same Italian restaurant where 20 years prior the then-prodigy with a pre-viral viral hit “Loser” first met with executives from a high-flying Geffen Records.

Beck is as lithe as he was then, with a tight haircut longer on top than the sides and a kind, barely guarded demeanor eager to place his ambitious new record in a context.

Beck — Morning Phase. The album is scheduled to be released on February 25, , on his new label, Capitol Records. According to a press release, Morning Phase will be a “companion piece” to his album Sea Change and “harkens back to the stunning harmonies, song craft and staggering emotional impact of that record, while surging forward with infectious optimism”.

Several of the musicians who recorded parts for Sea Change returned to record for Morning Phase. It was not until that he returned to continue the project, this time recording at Third Man Records which, incidentally had not existed at the time of his previous sessions. His father David Campbell has been reported to have contributed orchestral arrangements for the album, as he had done previously for Sea Change, and several of Beck’s other albums.

For anyone who listened to Morning Phase and wished they got a little of the weird, funny, Midnite Vultures -era Beck, instead of brooding Sea Change -era Beck, this song is for you. But no combination is as potent as Beck and White.
